Carbonfree Chemicals has an immediate opening for a Railyard Engineer for its’ innovative Carbon Capture facility located in San Antonio. The Railyard Engineer will perform a variety of duties in the railyard as well as in the plant in every day operations. The Railyard Engineer is responsible for all rail moves made, Rail mover training and Conductor training. Knowledge in loading all chemicals into railcars and assisting Shift Supervisors in regular plant duties.  Responsible for all inbound and outbound rail traffic in a fast pace chemical plant environment. Additional duties include training of operators in railyard, SOP’s and safe chemical handling practices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Train operators on rail operations and safety
  • Minor maintenance on Rail Movers; oil, grease, etc.
  • Use of Union Pacific website to track cars
  • Monitor all inbound and outbound railcars
  • Plan all rail moves and keep railyard organized
  • Monitor/complete railyard inventory
  • Work with customer service on all inbound and outbound movement
  • Conduct railyard audits and address issues
  • Greasing and cleaning of all switches
  • Maintain accurate overall record keeping of all railcars
  • Monitor/track HCl testing records
  • Train operators on truck and railcar loading SOP’s
  • Train operators on rail operations and safety
  • Use of telephone and/or radio communications with plant operators and/or office personnel
  • Maintain good housekeeping to avoid debris on or around scales, switches and rail.
  • Must be flexible and have ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must follow safe work practices and adhere to safety rules
  • Comply with all company policies/procedures
  • Execute other duties as assigned by management
  • Must have good oral and written English communication skills
  • Must have good listening skills and ability to elicit information

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Ability to work evening shift, Sunday – Thursday. 4pm-12:30 and overtime as needed.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of rail safety along with being an experienced engineer in multiple rail movers, such as Shuttlewagon and Trackmobile.
  • Knowledge to operate both rail scales and strapping system
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision are also
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are also
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial chemical production environment

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Experience as a trainer
  • Experience in all safe railcar and truck loading practices
  • FRA and/or Chemtrec experience is a plus
